BELIEVING BELIEVERS

Jesus Christ asked the question, when He was here on this earth, Luke 18:7  "And shall not God avenge His Own elect, which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them?  8 I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.  Nevertheless, when the Son of Man cometh, shall He find faith on the earth?"  KJV

Heb 11:13  "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth."  KJV

Heb 11:35  "Women received their dead raised to life again:

and others were tortured, not accepting deliverance; that they might obtain a better resurrection:  36 And others had:

* trial of cruel mockings and

* scourgings, yea, moreover of

* bonds and

* imprisonment:  37 They were

* stoned, they were

* sawn asunder, were

* tempted, were

* slain with the sword: they

* wandered about in

* sheepskins and goatskins; being

* destitute,

* afflicted,

* tormented;  38  (Of whom the world was not worthy:) they

* wandered in deserts, and in

* mountains, and in

* dens and

* caves of the earth.  39 And these all, having obtained a good report through faith,

* received not the promise:  40 God having provided some better thing for us, that

* they without us should not be made perfect."  KJV

Num 23:19  "God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it?   Or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?"  KJV

Titus 1:2 "In hope of eternal life, which God, That cannot lie, promised before the world began;"  KJV

Heb 6:16  "When a man takes an oath, he is calling upon someone greater than himself to force him to do what he has promised or to punish him if he later refuses to do it; the oath ends all argument about it. 17 God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those He promised to help would be perfectly sure and never need to wonder whether He might change His plans.  18 He has given us both His promise and His oath, two things we can completely count on, for it is impossible for God to tell a lie. Now all those who flee to Him to save them can take new courage when they hear such assurances from God; now they can know without doubt that He will give them the salvation He has promised them."  TLB

We are going to give answers and solutions to the problem we are about to discuss:

Many people are angry with God because, at one time, they believed Him and His promises, and they became disappointed with God when it seemed that He let them down, when it seemed that God did not keep His promise to them.  For many others, this anger or resentment is subconscious.  This condition includes many Christians.  Many Christians carry within them a wounded-ness, a hurt, for the same reason, because they have become disappointed with God's seeming failure to keep His promises to them.  In some ways, they even feel as though they have been abused by God, in that it seems to them as though God failed to keep His promises to them, like a child who has been promised by his or her father to give them ice cream, or take them fishing, or to Disney Land, but then did not keep his promise.  Thus, there are many who have been Christians, who, because of this, have allowed themselves to become angry or hurt, and, there are many who have used this apparent failure on God's part, to go away from God, from church attendance, or even from continuing their faith in God.  And, there are some, who have become militant, aggressive anti-God, anti-Christian, and anti-Bible critics and antagonists, and some have even used this condition as an excuse to persecute Christians.

I have written an article called "Mad: At God?"  It is available on our website, at:  www.Great-Commission-Ministries.org.

ANSWERS & SOLUTIONS

1.  Make a specifically itemized list of alllll and every time when it seemed that God let you down, or when it seemed to you that God failed to keep His promise to you, or when it seemed that God failed to minister to you on your terms.

2.  Begin by repenting to God, for every time and circumstance, when you allowed yourself to become angry or resentful toward God, and for every time when you allowed self pity or unbelief to creep in.

3.  Realizing that God is perfect, and that He never lies (although it seemed to you that He did), by a strongly determined choice of your will, choose to forgive God, item by item, on your list, for every time when God failed to meet your expectations.

4.  Many people allow themselves to go on strike, or to withdraw, or to hunker in self pity, when they come to believe God has disappointed them in this way.  Instead of forging forward valiantly, one can, to whatever extent, want to go to bed, cover up their head, curl up into a fetus position, and suck their thumb!  They decrease their intensity of worship and praise, in their giving, their serving, their Bible reading, and in their resisting of sin, etc.  There are many ways that this condition of self pity and hurt can manifest itself.  To whatever extent you have allowed this in your life, one needs to repent for withdrawing from God, in self pity.

5.  Make a gut-level, fiercely determined choice of your will to choose, from now on, to believe God, no matter what happens, even if death were to happen before the promise is fulfilled.

6.  Sometimes a child or a retarded person has a child-like faith, no matter what happens.  They keep on believing in the face of the unfulfilled promise, even joyful and excited, beyond reason.  This is how God wants us to be, to persist in faith, no matter the circumstance.  We can choose to continue to be excited about God's promises, and, about God, Himself, no matter how long the promise takes.

7.  Many people have left their first love, and have allowed their faith to become dull, dusty and rusty, to experience negative conditioning because of the delay of promised fulfillment.  One needs to aggressively, again, by a clear and determined choice of will, to dust off, as it were, their faith, and sharpen it up, and get the rust off of their faith, and again put it into action.

Jesus asked and asks the question, "When I come again, will there be anyone who still has faith???"  Now we know why He asks that question!  Will you answer by shouting, "YES!!!!!"?
